Resort 2011 Trend: Retro

A lot of designers channeled their inner flower or mod girl for Resort 2011. There were lots of 70s inspired caftan outfits with flowy blouses and flared pants, and 60s inspired dresses in bright colors from designers Alice + Olivia, Louis Vuitton, Moschino, Balenciaga, and Jill Stuart.

Alice + Olivia’s yellow 60s dress is fun and flirty, and this classic silhouette means you’ll get more than just one season’s wear out of it.  Pair with 60s accessories for a complete retro vibe, or with nude pumps and Ray Bans for a more modern take.

Alice + Olivia’s Resort 2011 collection was all about sixties fun, although it’s interesting to see that flared jeans have been popping up so much lately….is there a bell bottoms comeback in the near future?

Look like a true flower girl in this breezy top and flared white pants by Alice + Olivia… Accessorize with a leather headband and lots of bracelets.

This blue 1960s skirtsuit in a bright blue color is a fun alternative to your typical skirtsuits. Nicolas Ghesquière pairs it with a funky retro necklace and some futuristic shoes to complete the look.

This pink pantsuit is paired with hints of neon green and white. Nicolas Ghesquière has created another fun alternative to a serious suit that women at any stage in their career can safely wear to the office or on a business trip overseas.

This is a perfect outfit for a day of shopping, lunch and mimosas. Jill Stuart’s favorite romantic floral look with a 70s twist.

Moschino’s fun polka dot motif is fun and ladylike. Perfect for an overseas business trip…if your business trip isn’t technically glamorous, at least you will be in this outfit.

Go sophisticated 60s with Louis Vuitton. Cat eye glasses complete the look.

Resort 2011 Trend: Maxi Dresses

Maxi dresses are everywhere for Resort 2011. Michael Kors kept it clean with a bright ombre hue and simple cut. Chanel was inspired by the 70′s and created flowy, romantic pieces. Lanvin was also inspired by caftans and created striking, edgy silhouettes. Richard Nicoll kept it classic, and Jill Stuart went back to its romantic roots.

Chanel’s 70′s inspired caftan maxi dress is one of my favorite resort pieces. It has movement, embellishments, and color, and looks exactly like what you envision wearing on a fabulous vacation.

A white linen maxi dress is a must for vacation – this Chanel piece adds something extra with several puffy 70s inspired tiers.

This Chanel halter dress has incredible movement and color, and the halter top does great things for cleavage! It would look spectacular with stiletto sandals and bangles for evening.

Peach is a universally flattering color that looks especially amazing on tanned skin. The ombre detail of the fabric makes it interesting, and the classic cut is figure flattering.

Resort 2011: Lanvin

This striking dress by Lanvin is comfortable and sexy at the same time. The snakeskin print makes it stand out, and the cut will work on most body types. Add some chunky jewelry and some giant wedges to complete the look.

Another 70s inspired piece, this time by Lanvin. The cut of this dress is very simple, and the sleeves create that 70s inspired look.

This black Lanvin maxi dress accentuates a tanned décolleté, shoulders and back. The jeweled halter eliminates the need for much jewelry, and the hem is higher in the front to show of fabulous shoes. Easy glamour.

This sarong inspired dress is an interesting take on the maxi, and features a fun print.  A slit in the back and a little sheerness adds a bit of sensuality.

This maxi by Jill Stuart is super romantic. The blush and nude tones combined with the frills and flowy fabric make this dress the perfect dinner-for-two ensemble on a romantic getaway.

Resort 2011 Richard Nicoll

This look by Richard Nicoll features a tank top upper with high waist belt and sheer bottom skirt, adding a trendy twist to a classic cut and color combo.

This maxi by Richard Nicoll is covered-up-sexy. The sheer top adds a little edge and the waist belt accentuates the figure.
